The Phillies Spiral Out Of Control (PST Show #318)
The Philadelphia Phillies appear to be unraveling at the seams, and it’s a downward spiral. It’s been a rough past few weeks for this team, dropping out of the NL East lead as they continue to have issues on offense and with the bullpen. To discuss on the show how this team can rebound, we brought onboard Jack Fritz from The High Hopes podcast and 94.1 WIP. We dive into who this Phillies team is, and what to make of this season.
But first, we talked about a ton of Flyers news that broke as of late: trading Radko Gudas for Matt Niskanen, signing Kevin Hayes, buying out Andrew MacDonald and extended replay review that appears to be coming to the NHL in the future. (3:25)
Then we dove into what our expectations should be for Sixers GM Elton Brand as the offseason is now upon us. (24:30)
This week on the Highbrow Segment, we talked extensively about a piece that appeared in The Athletic titled, “Should pro sports teams share the wealth with athletes and fans?” (33:30)
Then on the Lowbrow Segment, we described each major player on the Phillies using only one or two words. A fun game and exercise for sure. (43:25)
What we’re throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with Jack Fritz from The High Hopes Phillies-based podcast about what this team can do to turn their midseason fortunes around. With a record that’s dipped over the past few weeks, inevitably, how can this team rebound as we feel the effects from the Andrew McCutchen injury? Should we be expecting more from Bryce Harper as the highest paid player in Major League Baseball? Should we also be looking at the Phillies farm system developmental staff as this team continues to have issues developing raw talent? All of these topics and much more this week on the Table! (51:40)
