The Phillies At The Midway Point (PST Show #270)

The Phillies are at the midway point of the 2018 season and things are getting very, very interesting after the All-Star break. Of course, the front office was unable to land Manny Machado in a trade. We’re going to get into what that specifically means for the Phillies, as well as what we can expect from this team during the second half of the season. John Stolnis, host of the Hittin’ Season podcast, and writer/contributor at TheGoodPhight.com and NumberFire.com, joined us for a ton of Phillies talk.
But first, on the Brief News & Views segment:
1. Is the NFL financially healthy moving forward after recent reports? (4:50)
2. Darren Sproles announced his retirement at the end of this season. Should he considered for the Hall of Fame in the future?
3. Is the Home Run Derby still fun to watch?
4. The Sixers just can’t seem to land any big names during this offseason.
Then we get into our Up or Down segment where we briefly analyze Philly sports figures to determine if their needle is moving up or down. (38:50)
What we’re throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with John Stolnis from the Hittin’ Season podcast, The Good Phigh and NumberFire. First, we dove into the news that Manny Machado is now a Los Angeles Dodger, the process it took for him to get there, and the ramifications for the Phillies. From there, we discussed with John who the Phillies might be looking at trade targets as the July 31st trade deadline approaches. What might Scott Kingery’s role be in the future, and will Maikel Franco be on the Phillies roster for the second half of the season? We got into all of these storylines and much, much more with John on the Table! (43:35)
