Phillies In The Homestretch (PST Show #275)

The Phillies are in the homestretch during this 2018 season. We continue to ask the questions while reflecting on this rollercoaster ride of a season; can the Phillies win the NL East, or at the very least slide into a wild card berth. To get into these Phillies with us this week is Liz Roscher, Editor at TheGoodPhight.com and writer for Yahoo! Sports. We’ll talk about the ups and downs this team is facing, yet the talent that’s manifested itself over this season.
But first, on the Brief News & Views segment:
1. The Eagles preseason and NFL helmet rule. (5:40)
2. Decisions for Flyer greats Wayne Simmonds and Sean Couturier. (13:05)
3. Sixers news and notes: a new scout and injured rookies are cleared to practice. (21:15)
Then we get into our Up or Down segment where we briefly analyze Philly sports figures to determine if their needle is moving up or down. (28:05)
What we’re throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with Liz Roscher from The Good Phight as the Phillies are in the homestretch and seeking a playoff berth. There a few games behind the Braves, but there’s hope for the team. We first asked Liz to grade the season on the whole, and then dove into mood of the fan base at the moment as we weighed our confidence of this team. Might newly acquired bullpen arm Luis Avilan help the team in later innings? What’s happened to Jorge Alfaro during the second half of this season? How should Gabe Kapler handle Odubel Herrera at this point in the season as Herrera seeks to climb out of his recent slump? All of this and much more this week on the Table! (35:55)
