The Eagles are bringing back a familiar face for a position that has a couple of uncertainties right now. To combat this, the Eagles have signed Richard Rodgers for his 4th stint with the team.
Last season we were able to see his impact more than his last tenures as he was finally back to full health. After only have 1 reception from 2018-2019, Rodgers broke out of the cold speed for 24 receptions and 345 receding yards.
Rodgers’ outbreak at the right time for an Eagles offense that was struggling to find healthy bodies. He averaged 14.4 yards per reception with 16 of receptions going for 1st downs and two of them going for touchdowns. 2020 was the most productive season that Rodgers had since 2015.
He also brings a more pressing need with his blocking ability. An ability that Head Coach Nick Sirriani values more than anything else.
The Eagles needed tight end depth behind their leading duo. Outside of a few low-risk project players, only UDFA Jack Stoll stood as a potential TE3 candidate. For an offense that will want to focus on running the ball, having a viable and versatile third option makes a ton of sense and Rodgers ticks every box
Rodgers is the perfect TE2 if the Eagles do indeed move on from Zach Ertz. With the familiarity that the team and Dallas Goedert has with him, it could help bridge a very necessary gap for Goedert in a very important season. Photo Credit: Icon Sportswire
