It was debated for weeks before last Sunday’s opening day how the eight-month layoff from the last game played for the Eagles starters would look.
An ugly first half was the answer as the Washington Redskins manhandled the Birds on offense and defense.
Rust or rest? The inactivity throughout the preseason schedule showed big time!
Luckily the starters were able to take Rust-Oleum showers at halftime in time to perform at the level a Super Bowl contender should. After being down 20-7 at the break, the Eagles outscored the lowly Skins’ 25-7, escaping an embarrassing loss to the division rivals to the South!
The 2019 version of Carson Wentz looked great, getting the ball out quick, hooking up with his new speedy WR Desean Jackson for two deep TD throws, for 51, 53 yards — just what the Birds brought D-Jax back for, the deep ball threat!
Jackson celebrated his return in Midnight Green with 8 receptions, good for 154 yards, better than 19 yards per catch — awesome production for Wentz and Jackson playing their first NFL game together!
The defense also woke up after the first half sleepwalk, essentially shutting out the Redskins, until DC Jim Schwartz called the dogs of with the Eagles up 12 as the Skins battled for a meaningless TD as time ran out.
Bettors laying 10 points noticed as their bet went down the tubes with the horsemeat TD by Washington. Maybe Case Keenum took the points as he drove down the field which still produced an L in the NFC East Standings, oh well!
Next up for the Eagles is a trip to Atlanta taking on the Falcons, 8:20pm/NBC on Sunday night.
